Industry Experts Polled on Housing Market

Altisource Portfolio Solutions (Altisource), a provider of real estate, mortgage and technology services, polled 100 mortgage servicing professionals in attendance at the recent Five Star Conference and Expo in Dallas, the nation’s largest gathering of mortgage servicing professionals. The survey indicates that 38 percent of respondents believe offering more financing options to home buyers for auction properties will be a factor in attracting a more consumer-based audience. This was followed by over a third of respondents, or 34 percent, who say education about the auction market and the use of real estate agents to promote auction properties will be needed to attract consumer interest in purchasing REO homes. Furthermore, 28 percent of respondents view having access to more robust market data and insights as the most important aspect to make the greatest impact in the REO market.“The bank-owned real estate sector was largely untapped by individual home buyers until recently,” said John A. Vella, Chief Revenue Officer of Altisource. “Today, individual buyers can benefit from smart financing options like rehab financing, otherwise known as a FHA 203(k) loan, which bundles the home purchase price and renovation costs into a single mortgage. This is a huge step in the right direction because it can help buyers purchase affordable properties from the REO market, especially at a time when inventory is low and housing prices are continuing to climb.”This evolution is really interesting in the context of affordability issues across the country and a maturing REO market coming together to boost homeownership. The poll also found that 44 percent of participants are optimistic that continued low interest rates will encourage home buying and 39 percent of participants are optimistic about new financing options from lenders will broaden the buyer pool. I will no longer send players to Man Utd – Raiola

first_imgMino Raiola has declared he will no longer send players to Manchester United. He told The Telegraph: “The club that he had the most direct contact with him was United. “They spoke to him the most. Everybody had the chance to talk to him in person. We let that happen especially when he knows Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. “Clearly he [Erling Haaland] felt that at this moment it was not the right step in his career. There is nothing against Manchester United or Ole. “He chose Borussia Dortmund ahead of them and other clubs and I’m very happy because he is going to the club he wanted to go to and that is best for him right now.” Pogba has constantly been linked with a move away from Old Trafford after he revealed in the summer he was seeking a “new challenge”. But ahead of the winter window, Raiola insisted the 26-year-old is focussed on fully recovering from injury and will remain a Red. Though the agent warned results must improve to keep his client in a United shirt. Asked whether sees Pogba staying in Manchester until next season, Raiola told Sky Sports: “Yes I can, but in a club that I hope fights for the league and hopefully the Champions League. “Is that strange? Am I the only one that’s worried? Is the owner not worried? I think that everybody that is in love with Manchester United is worried about that. “I’m worried about that for my player. I’m not a fan of Manchester United but I have a very direct interest. “As long as Paul is in Manchester United, he wants to win trophies with Manchester United. That’s the kind of player he is and he will not act differently. Read Also:Europa League: Manchester United draw excites Okereke “Like Ole’s saying, it’s a work in progress now this club. He’s says he’s working on a team for next year. Let’s hope that it goes well for him because the world needs Manchester United on the top. “Clearly they are not where they think they should be.” FacebookTwitterWhatsAppEmail分享 Promoted ContentThe Very Last Bitcoin Will Be Mined Around 2140. United pulled out of the pursuit for Haaland as they would not agree to a sell–on clause that would have given Raiola control of any future transfer fee if he left Manchester. And Paul Pogba’s agent has now attacked Old Trafford chiefs and claimed he will flat out refuse future business with the club. Raiola told Italian outlet La Repubblica: “Today I would no longer bring anyone there. “They would also ruin [Diego] Maradona, Pele and [Paolo] Maldini.” Raiola revealed he had a bust up with legendary United manager Sir Alex Ferguson after Pogba stood up to the no-nonsense Scot. And the agent blasted the current United set-up as “out of reality” as he hinted his World Cup-winning client could do with a move back to Serie A champions Juve. Raiola explained: “For Pogba I fought with (Sir Alex) Ferguson. “Paul was the only one to say no to him, he never digested this and he took it out on me. “But now Pogba’s problem is Manchester – it’s a club out of reality, without a sports project. “Paul needs a team and a club, one like the first Juve.” United boss Solskjaer – who coached Haaland at Molde – travelled to meet the striker’s camp on December 13. Raiola vows he gave Solskjaer an equal chance to get his fellow Norwegian to the Theatre of Dreams – but the player had his heart set on Germany.last_img

Ho-Hum, Another Human Missing Link

first_imgShoppers typically are wary of over-hyped ads, knowing that any claim sounding too good to be true probably is.  What would they think about media reports claiming a new fossil monkey is the “8th wonder of the world”?    The scientific paper in PLoS ONE1 had hardly been published before the press went ape, as if on cue, at the buzzphrase missing link.  A couple of press releases about the new lemur fossil of a female nicknamed Ida are calm and rational, like the one by Gautum Naik at the Wall Street Journal.  If what he wrote is true, that existing debates will persist in spite of the fossil, then the statements made by other reporters are clearly over the top (sampling below).    All that was found was a well-preserved fossil in Germany that is 95% lemur, alleged to be 47 million years old.  The only things it lacks from modern lemurs is a specialized tooth for grooming, a specialized claw for grooming, and a wet nose (although “We can’t say whether it had a wet nose or not,” American Paleontological Society president Philip Gingerich confessed).  Other than that, the fossil looks like a modern lemur.  To evolutionists, it bears on debates over whether the common ancestor of all monkeys, apes, and (presumably) us, was a tarsier or a lemur.  It has nothing to do with downstream questions about human evolution from chimpanzee-like apes which, according to the Darwinian story, diverged 41 million years later.  As Naik pointed out, this fossil is neither likely to convince creationists, who deny humans evolved from any lower mammal, nor the evolutionists who believe that a tarsier-like animal was the ancestor of the primates.  Even this UK Guardian article answers the question whether Ida was a missing link with a firm “yes and no.”  It says, “The paper’s scientific reviewers asked that they tone down their original claims that the fossil was on the human evolutionary line,” stating that was the job of the scientific community to sort out.    One would never know any of this from some of stories in the press.  Science Daily labeled it “extraordinary” and freely made use of the Darwinian buzzwords transitional, primitive, and ancestor.  This fossil is like a “Rosetta Stone” we are told, and “world heritage” in its significance.  It is the “first link to all humans” said one evolutionist.  David Attenborough, who is preparing a TV documentary called Link about this specimen, said, “This little creature is going to show us our connection with all the rest of the mammals.  The link they would have said until now is missing … it is no longer missing.”    One might wonder how Attenborough could have a documentary ready to air by May 25 if this is just being announced now.  Well, it was part of a two-year study that was kept top secret by an international team of scientists, who apparently had plenty of time to get the press ready for a blitz of hype.  And hype they did: National Geographic ran the bold headline, “MISSING LINK Photos: New Fossil Links Humans, Lemurs?”  Sky News seemed to run out of superlatives in its coverage.  The fossil is “described by experts as the ’eighth wonder of the world’,” Alex Watts reported; “They say its impact on the world of palaeontology will be ‘somewhat like an asteroid falling down to Earth’.”  Charles Darwin has been vindicated: “Researchers say proof of this transitional species finally confirms Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution, and the then radical, outlandish ideas he came up with during his time aboard the Beagle.”  Quoting Attenborough: Darwin “would have been thrilled” to have seen this fossil:“This little creature is going to show us our connection with the rest of the mammals,” he said.“This is the one that connects us directly with them.“Now people can say ‘okay we are primates, show us the link’.“The link they would have said up to now is missing – well it’s no longer missing.”Jorn Hurum, Norwegian paleontologist who obtained the fossil, got a big callout quote: “This fossil is really a part of our history; this is part of our evolution, deep, deep back into the aeons of time, 47 million years ago.”  The fossil was admired “like a cherished Van Gogh or Picasso painting.”  Hurum was so in awe of it, “he could not sleep for two days.”  The creature lived when “the first whales, horses, bats and monkeys emerged” and is the “final piece of Darwin’s jigsaw,” Watts wrote.  He ended with the triumph of science over religion: the reaction of the Bishop of Worcester’s wife to Darwin’s theory, “famously” worrying, “Descended from the apes!  My dear, let us hope that it is not true, but if it is, let us pray that it will not become generally known.”  To which Watts added in triumph, “Now, it certainly is.”    The BBC News, surprisingly, seemed to smell a conspiracy:But some independent experts, awaiting an read more

Does Spam Go With That Bargain? Digital Satirists Harass Groupon

first_imgBritish digital satirists fed up with Groupon’s daily email deluge tried to physically deliver spam to the company’s London office on British television last night. A video clip of the event on YouTube shows how questionable business practices can come home to roost at the worst moment for a struggling company. The segment, filmed by Don’t Panic for Channel 4, included Israeli performance artist Nimrod Kamer dressed in a SPAM costume trying to gain entrance to the offices.“I’m spamming you guys for all the spam I got,” Kamer yells at a security guard who won’t let him in the office building in the 1:18 segment. The motive for the segment, Kamer explained in a brief interview, was “to celebrate the demise of Groupon. The appropriate thing to do was to go to their offices and shove them some homemade spam one last time before they go bankrupt.”Groupon has been on a downward financial swing lately, prompting ReadWriteWeb to put the Chicago-based company on our DeathWatch list in July. The company has been accused of proliferating spam by its American customers since 2011, prompting British entrepreneur David Maher Roberts to pose the question, “Is Groupon a great way to save or simply spam?”  The Don’t Panic segment has turned up the criticism. The description of the segment uploaded to YouTube says:Half-price fish pedicures. Car cleaning deals. Bargain boob jobs. If you’ve had emails about any of these ‘amazing’ offers lately, chances are you’ve been spammed by coupon giant Groupon. Don’t Panic decided to take matters into our own hands, and headed down to London Groupon HQ to spam the spammers. Indian snowshoe athlete Tanveer Hussain charged with sexual abuse in US

first_imgA 24-year-old Indian athlete has been indicted in the US on charges of sexually abusing a minor girl, days after he arrived from Kashmir for a snowshoe competition.Tanveer Hussain was indicted last week by an Essex County grand jury for allegedly having inappropriate contact with a 12-year-old Saranac Lake girl earlier this year. The grand jury returned the indictment Hussain charging him with one count of first-degree sexual abuse and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, a report in the Adirondack Daily Enterprise quoted a press release from Essex County District Attorney Kristy Sprague as saying.Hussain had been arrested in March on charges of sexually abusing the minor girl, two days after he competed in the World Snowshoe Championships at Dewey Mountain Recreation Center.”Hussain is alleged to have subjected a 12-year-old female to sexual contact and engaged in inappropriate conversations with said child during the time he was in Saranac Lake,” the report quoted Sprague as saying. The minor girl had told police that on the night of February, two days after the snowshoe race, Hussain had kissed her twice and had groped her.The report added that Hussain had previously denied the charges and declined a plea deal that would have let him return to India as he wanted to clear his name.Hussain’s lawyer Brian Barrett said that he was disappointed that Sprague announced the indictment in a press release before notifying him.”This is all about the press. That s what this whole case is all about,” he said.advertisementHussain had garnered much attention before arriving in the US for the snowshoe championship after the US Embassy in New Delhi had denied him and another athlete visas around the same time President Donald Trump had issued an order barring travel into the US from seven Muslim-dominant countries. While India was not among the seven countries, the denial of visa to Hussain and the other athlete was seen associated with the executive order.last_img
