LNG arrives for JPS Bogue power plant

first_imgFacebook Twitter Google+LinkedInPinterestWhatsAppMontego Bay, Jamaica, October. 23, 2016 –  The Government’s drive to bring cheaper and cleaner energy to the people of Jamaica has been advanced with the arrival of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) for the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) power plant in Bogue, St. James.  Supplied by New Fortress Energy, the shipment arrived at the Port of Montego Bay aboard the feeder ship Anthony Veeder on October 22.Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of JPS, Kelly Tomblin, said the introduction of LNG as part of the energy mix represents “a historic milestone for Jamaica” as the nation pursues “energy diversification and the expansion of its energy sector”.  Ms. Tomblin, who was at the Montego Bay port for the ship’s arrival, said New Fortress has pumped US$750 million into the construction of the LNG terminal.  She said that natural gas will play a key role in transforming the energy sector, while supporting industrial development and economic growth. “We are definitely on the threshold of great things for Jamaica and the region,” Ms. Tomblin added.Just a year ago, New Fortress Energy signed an agreement with JPS to supply LNG for Jamaica’s 120-megawatt power plant in Bogue. Earlier this year, the plant was converted to run on gas as well as Automotive Diesel Oil (ADO).   JPS and New Fortress Energy have also signed an agreement to extend the supply of gas to Jamaica to the new 190-megawatt power plant at Old Harbour Bay, St. Catherine. New Fortress Energy has agreed to privately finance and develop the infrastructure necessary to deliver LNG to the new Old Harbour plant.Meanwhile, Project Manager at the Port Authority of Jamaica, Keith Mitchell, said the agency is pleased to have done its part in facilitating the arrival of the vessel and to provide the infrastructure for the cargo to be unloaded.  “The LNG diversification project has resulted in the Authority fast-tracking its master plan for the development of the Port of Montego Bay into a modern facility with separate berths dedicated to cargo operations and cruise shipping,” he pointed out.“We are also delighted to have been able to facilitate and enable the realisation of a national objective, which has been in the pipeline for a number of years.  This project is of national importance and is part of the Government’s drive to bring cheaper energy to the Jamaican people,” he added. He informed that the Port Authority leased the lands to New Fortress for infrastructural works to enable the weekly arrival of LNG to be offloaded, converted and channelled for use at the Bogue Power Plant.   “This investment has the potential to significantly reduce energy costs and thus drive economic development and job creation and promote the wide industrial application of LNG,” Mr. Mitchell further explained.“It will also see the facilitation of cruise and cargo vessels using LNG as well as the exportation of the product to other regional countries,” he added.  He noted that with the weekly docking of the LNG vessel coupled with the increased home-porting activities, there is need for the development of new port infrastructure, and a new dedicated cargo berth for docking containers and liquid bulk (fuels) vessels.  “There are indeed numerous opportunities for Jamaica to benefit,” Mr. Mitchell added. 2020 Cadillac XT5 New tech more standard equipment

In order to keep the compact luxury SUV competitive, it’s getting a midcycle refresh for the 2020 model year with an updated look, a new powertrain option and, of course, loads more technology. The visual changes are subtle. Inside, there are new color themes and trims, as well as a redesigned center console that’s been reshaped to better hold cups, phones and other items. Externally, a bit of sheet-metal sharpening brings the XT5’s look more in line with its sibling, the new XT6. Last year’s premium LED headlamps are now standard equipment, flanking a new mesh grille treatment.Behind that grille, you’ll find the automaker’s 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine serving as the new base power plant for most trim levels. It’ll send 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque in the direction of the front wheels via a standard nine-speed automatic transmission, with all-wheel drive being available as an option. Buyers will be able to upgrade to a 3.6-liter V6 engine for a bump up to 310 hp and 271 lb-ft of torque. The V6 is standard equipment on a new Sport trim level that also features an adaptive damper suspension and a Sport All-Wheel Drive system with a torque-vectoring, twin-clutch rear differential that improves power delivery and stability while cornering.Expect significantly more tech in the 2020 XT5, starting in the dashboard, where you’ll find an 8-inch version of Cadillac and GM’s Infotainment 3.5 system with a new physical control “jog wheel” located within easy reach on the center console. The new software is a huge improvement over Caddy’s old CUE system, with an intuitive interface and pretty snappy performance. Still, I’m most happy to be able to ditch the old capacitive volume touch bar in favor of a trusty, accurate volume knob. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay continue as standard technologies, joined by new NFC smartphone pairing and high-speed USB-C charging ports scattered around the cabin.2020-cadillac-xt5-premiumluxury-013-low-resThe visual changes are subtle, but the 2020 XT5 boasts more standard safety and cabin technologies than before. Cadillac There are also more standard safety features including forward collision alert with low-speed automatic braking, Intellibeam automatic high-beam lighting and pedestrian detection for front and rear. Meanwhile, the 2020 options list also gets fleshed out with newly available night vision, improved versions of the automaker’s rear camera mirror and surround-view camera systems and more. The updated 2020 Cadillac XT5 hits dealerships in “late summer 2019.” More standard equipment means that it will also come with a bump in price. We expect to learn exactly how much more closer to that launch window.last_img

A common initiative of the Goethe-Instituts in South Asia and a project realised in an alliance with regional partners Wild City.  Performing on Wednesday, Space/Ghost is a Dhaka based solo electronic project. Although a classically trained pianist, French electronica moves him the most. Big City Harmonics is the solo project of Rohan Hastak – a former guitarist turned live electronica act. When Pandas Attack is a Delhi-based graphic designer Ankur Chauhan’s solo project. It started about 3 years ago, with a desire to put down thoughts quickly, a form of creative note keeping. Messing around with recording guitar parts for a while, he progressed to making full tracks without any actual instruments. This experiment gained momentum once he connected electronic music with an organic soundscape.WHERE : Hauz Khas SocialWHEN:  29 Octoberlast_img

StepbyStep 5 Laptop Upgrades You Can Do Yourself

first_img Brought to you by PCWorld Free Webinar | Sept 5: Tips and Tools for Making Progress Toward Important Goals Want better performance from your laptop? The conventional wisdom has long held that you should simply buy a new one. You can put such conventional wisdom aside: Upgrading a laptop may not be for the timid or the impatient, but if you’re handy with a screwdriver, and the sight of a circuit board doesn’t scare you, an upgrade can be a far more affordable solution. We took tools to hand and worked our way through eight common (and not so common) laptop upgrades, in some instances stripping our test machines–a Dell Inspiron E1505 and a Dell Inspiron 6000–down to the bare chassis. We can’t fit complete step-by-step, unscrew-this-and-unplug-that instructions for everything into this article, but we can provide tips to help with each process. And note that every laptop varies: Even machines from the same vendor can have very different designs and therefore wildly different disassembly methods. Before you start, keep these essential points in mind:Many of these upgrades will void your laptop’s warranty. Some upgrades can damage your laptop. If you are at all uncomfortable with such tinkering, leave it to a pro. Most vendors provide disassembly instructions in their products’ service manuals, which can usually be found on their Web sites’ support sections.Unplug your laptop and remove the battery before attempting any upgrade. Also, to avoid damage from static electricity, use a grounded wrist strap. You’ll need a collection of small screwdrivers, including flathead, Phillips, and possibly even Torx.Speaking of screws, keep them organized as you remove them. We like to use Dixie cups for each step. Just write “LCD assembly” or “keyboard” or whatever on each cup as you go, to help you remember which screws go where.Pay special attention to wiring. Laptops have intricate channels where the wiring must run; stray wiring may get pinched or may prevent other parts from fitting together correctly. No matter what machine you’re working on, first upgrade your BIOS. You’ll need up-to-date BIOS code to support many newer components. Not every laptop component can be upgraded. Some may be soldered or otherwise permanently attached.RAMHard DriveOptical DriveBluetoothWireless CardRAMTime: 10 minutesAdding or replacing memory has always been one of the simplest upgrades to perform on a laptop; even novice computer users should have no difficulty with it. And in our tests, this upgrade gave the most bang for the buck. On our Dell Inspiron 1525 test model, an upgrade from 1GB of RAM to 2GB (cost: $50) boosted the laptop’s WorldBench 6 score from 57 to 62.Quick tip: Use Crucial’s System Scanner to find out what type of RAM modules you need. You can mix and match old modules with new ones, but some systems may end up with better performance if you install a matched pair of identical DIMM units. You can find a selection of laptop memory modules from a variety of vendors in PC World Shopping. Most laptops have a panel on the underside that, when removed, exposes the DIMM slots for RAM. (On some models, however, you must remove the keyboard to reach the slots; see the next paragraph.) To remove the panel–which is often labeled either with an M (for memory) or with a picture of a RAM chip–unscrew the holding screw or screws. Usually a single screw holds the panel in place, though some laptops may use as many as eight. If you need to remove the keyboard, follow these steps:Remove the laptop’s hinge cover by prying up the plastic.Detach the keyboard by taking out the two screws beneath the hinge cover that secure it, lifting it off, and then unplugging the connector.(Reverse these steps when the new RAM is in place.)To remove an old RAM module, gently pull apart the metal clips securing each end. Once freed, it should pop up at an angle. Gently pull it straight out. Insert your new RAM in the same way, at an angle, until it is completely seated in the slot; then, again gently, press it down flat (see photo 2 at right). The holding clips will engage automatically.Replace the panel and battery, and boot up. Your computer should automatically recognize the change in RAM.Hard DriveTime: 60 minutesReplacing a laptop’s hard drive is almost always an uncomplicated affair, and the actual swap can be done in just a few minutes. Transferring the data from the old drive to the new one requires a little more planning, and typically takes an hour or so. This simple task is likely not only to give you more storage, but also to improve performance. We upgraded a 5400-rpm, 120GB drive to a 7200-rpm, 200GB model, raising the system’s WorldBench 6 score from 57 to 61.You can find a selection of laptop hard drives from a variety of vendors in PC World Shopping.Hard drives are usually accessible via a side panel in read more
